Save Time and Money on Your Car Rental

If you're planning a trip overseas, chances are you're going to need a vehicle while you're abroad. Unfortunately there's way more to think about than simply having to drive on the "wrong side" of the road. Overseas car-rental can be relatively painless as long as you plan ahead.

First of all, it's important to ensure that you will have all the proper credentials in order to drive while you're visiting another country. You should remember is that it's a good idea to make all your arrangements and even make your rental car payments prior to leaving the United States. Completing these processes well in advance and shopping online whenever possible will provide you with peace of mind while preparing for your trip. Believe it or not, making sure that you get all the details taken care of prior to boarding you're plane will help avoid problems with exchange rates, foreign specifications, as well as the ever so common language barrier and cultural difference that can cause problems with international service.

One big tip when renting vehicles overseas is to request a car that is much smaller than you would normally use. Most airports that are located in major travel centers even in foreign countries will be stocked with "travel luxury size" vehicles. These oversize vehicles will pack the lot and booking a small car may earn you a free upgrade! Why you're not guaranteed a free upgrade to a larger vehicle, selecting compact vehicle can save you money regardless.

You should also make sure that you know how to drive the vehicle you be renting adequately. Many foreign vehicles are operated with a manual transmission. If you have to have an automatic transmission, chances are you will pay a little more. Not only that, you should make sure that you obtain all the necessary international driving permits. If you're traveling in a country the native language is English, you'll probably be OK with your American driver’s license. However, if you're traveling to Spain, Portugal, or another country where the native language is different from your own, you may be required to obtain additional documentation. Contact your local authorities to find out what information you'll need prior to your travels.

Remember, renting a car overseas can be a relatively painless procedure. All you need to do is pay attention to the necessary requirements and review your needs and documentations prior to boarding a plane.
